Expert to offer talk on living with dyslexia


USA RIVERSIDE – The Inland Empire branch of the International Dyslexia Association will be hosting a meeting Jan. 11 at the Riverside County Office of Education Conference Center at 3939 13th St., Riverside.The meeting will include an ice cream social at 6:30 p.m. followed by the normal annual meeting at 7 p.m. and a presentation by Clarann Goldring at 7:10 p.m.

Goldring will give tips and strategies for parents, teachers and adult dyslexics during her presentation titled, „Practical Tips on How to Live with a Learning Difference: For Kids and Adults.“

Goldring learned she was dyslexic when she was 37. She has four children and 10 grandchildren and went back to school to earn her doctorate in psychology.

The different brain formation that causes dyslexia appears in 15 percent of the population who can have trouble reading and manipulating sequences of letters and numbers, following directions and keeping track of time.

The condition can also result in severe loss of self-esteem, limited friendships and failure in school and work. But Goldring’s session will illustrate how those with dyslexia can succeed.

The meeting is free and open to the public.
